Including Your New Dentures in your Oral Hygiene Regimen

Posted .

Your new set of dentures effectively restores the appearance and full function of your mouth. Including it as part of your oral hygiene regimen, will help insure that it will serve you for a long time to come.

Denture adhesive is a popular and effective way to secure dentures in place while helping to block out food particles. If you do end up with some food particles getting into the space between the dentures and your gums, you should thoroughly rinse the unit and reapply fresh adhesive.

When you take your dentures out at the end of the day they will need to thoroughly rinse them to remove residual adhesive and plaque. This will also give you a smooth surface for reapplying denture adhesive the next day.

You should then use soft bristled toothbrush and denture polish to scrub the faces and contours of the teeth. Then you should soak the dentures overnight in water and keep them in a safe place. If you have denture implants you should also brush them and any locking hardware to remove plaque buildup.

You can also lightly brush your tongue and gums to remove bacteria, prevent bad breath, and refresh your mouth.
